Where Future Leaders are Made!
An organization’s future leaders can come from a variety of places, typically recruited from other organizations or grown and developed from within. For most organizations, the preferred pattern is the latter “home grown” variety.
Establishing a process in which future leaders can be identified, selected, assessed, and then developed through learning initiatives reinforced by executive coaching becomes paramount. Such processes should be put in place well before the demand presents itself (i.e., succession planning), as most High Potential (HiPo) Development programs run 12-18 months in length.
In 2007 at Pathos Leadership Group we recognized the need for leadership development, and realized that most of the participants in our workshops were of a “High Potential” perspective. We began screening applicants for our leadership development program workshops with the use of assessments (behavioral assessments as well as 360 degree reviews). The results provided the organization’s in which we partnered with a much better High Potential Candidate selection pool from which to draft future leaders within their organization, and ultimately through succession planning plug them into future leadership positions.
